Gazprom may build small LNG plants for exports to China
MOSCOW, Jul 28 (PRIME) -- Gas giant Gazprom is studying construction of small liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in Russia’s Far East for LNG exports to China, Igor Mainitsky, head of Gazprom Export’s LNG export department, said in an article he contributed to Gazprom’s corporate magazine on Thursday.
“Gazprom is tracking the development of small-scale LNG market in China, and is studying the possibility of construction of small-scale LNG plants in the Far East in addition to the natural gas export infrastructure,” he said.
In May 2014, gas giant Gazprom and China’s CNPC signed a contract to supply up to 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year via the Sila Sibiri (Power of Siberia) pipeline, or the eastern route. The pipeline will be around 4,000 kilometers long. Gazprom plans to launch gas delivery through the eastern route in 2019 at an initial amount of 5 billion cubic meters.
In May 2015, Gazprom and CNPC signed an agreement on main conditions of gas supplies via the western route, or the Sila Sibiri-2 pipeline. The capacity of the project’s first stage will stand at 30 billion cubic meters annually.
